I wanted to share some thoughts with you about rice. All Myanmar curries are eaten with white basmati rice. If I was cooking for someone who never ate Myanmar food before I would serve them white basmati rice. This way they experience the cuisine in it's purist cultural form. However, on an everyday basis I eat brown basmati rice. I know it might seem odd, but I really like eating my curry with rice this way. If you want to make the switch over to brown rice try mixing brown and white together first. Then slowing increase your proportion of brown rice and decrease the amount of white rice until you get all brown rice. Why do I eat brown rice? White rice has all the nutrients stripped from it. The glycemic levels are high and it is a simple carbohydrate with little fiber. Brown rice is a complex carbohydrate, high in fiber and low glycemic levels. As Dr. Oz would say, "Stay away from the white.". Health food and organic food stores are stocked with these mighty whole grains. Even regular grocery stores are selling more whole grain products. But read your ingredients, high frutose corn syrup and trans fatty acids could be hiding in your food. That's a blog for another time. Anyway, I'm not a doctor or a nutritionist. I simply wanted to share why I eat brown rice with my curry. It's more important to me to be healthy than to just be thin. So....come on!!!! Try brown rice, your body will love you for it. |
